相信对很多上班族来说，最梦寐以求的就是能够拥有一个长假期，可以有一段长时间不用见到自己的老板，所以你就决定买张机票出国度假。然而最恼人的是，千里迢迢坐了十几小时飞机后，竟然发现自己的老板也在伦敦大桥上赏风景，四目交投，这时候你可不要惊讶地说："What are you doing here?" 你应该收起惊讶的表情，然后扮成一张笑脸跟他说："Hey! Fancy meeting you here!" “嗨，多么令人惊讶，竟然在这里遇到你！”

A: Hello! Fancy meeting you here!
B: Hi, Martin! What brings you here?
A: My new job. My office is right across this street.
B: I can’t talk. I got to go.
甲：嗨，真凑巧，竟在这儿遇见你！
乙：真巧，马丁! 什么风吹你来的？
甲：我的新工作。我的办公室就在马路对面。
乙：不讲啦，我要走了。
如果你意外地发现自己心仪的对象竟然就在面前，你应该赶快过去跟他说："Hey！Fancy meeting you here！" “竟然在这个地方碰到你！”通常我们说这句话的时候一定属于不期而遇、万万没有想到，所以你可以在这句话前加个‘助语词’，例如“Hello！”或是“Hey！”
如人家跟你说：“Hey！Fancy meeting you here！”你可以继续说：“What brings you here ?”“什么风把你吹来啦？”
Fancy作动词用，意思是‘想象’，口语上常用来起句，有‘真想不到’的感叹含义，例如：
(1) Fancy that! He’s falling in love! （他恋爱了，真想不到！）
(2) Fancy my sister’s falling in love with him! （想不到我妹妹爱上了他！）
除了说“Fancy that !”之外，fancy一般直接带出动名词，“Fancy meeting you here ! ”是一例子。
意外碰到人家，除了说Fancy meeting you here. 表示惊奇，还有几个习惯说法：
(1) Imagine meeting you here! （想不到在这里碰到你！）
(2) What a surprise to meet you here! （在这里碰到你，真想不到！）
(3) Never thought I’d see you here! （绝对想不到会在这里碰到你！）
要语气随便一点，还可以说：What are you doing in this neck of the woods? / What brings you to this neck of the woods? （你在这里干什么？/ 什么风把你吹来啦？）
This neck of the woods是美国口语，不宜用于严肃的写作。Neck本来指脖子般狭长的土地，从前美国西南部 (the southwest) 树木丰茂，凡有人聚居的地方，都叫做a neck of the woods（树林中的颈状地带）。后来 a neck of the woods这成语遍传美国，成为‘地带’的意思，例如：Property prices have slumped in this neck of the woods.（这一带的房地产价格暴跌了）。
