在刚刚过去的2010年的大银幕上，改编自同名儿童读物的《驯龙高手》是让人印象最深刻的电影之一。这部动画片在上映之初并未受人期待，随后观影好评却接踵而来，从3D画面到故事情节都得到人们的一致肯定，以至于网上有那么一段时间出现了“每个人心中都有一只Toothless”这样的造句。无牙触动了我们心底最柔软的那一块儿，那是每一个人心灵深处的天真、无邪与纯粹，让大人与小孩一起在电影院里快乐得放声大笑，感动得鼻子发酸，走出剧场时不禁嘴角上扬——希望梦工厂在2011年也能继续为我们带来更多这样的欢笑与感怀吧！

故事一开始……
Hiccup: This is Berk. It’s 12 days north of Hopeless and a few degrees south of Freezing to Death. It’s located solidly on the Meridian[子午线] of Misery. My village. In a word: sturdy. It’s been here for seven generations, but every single building is new. We have fishing, hunting and a charming view of the sunsets. The only problems are the pests[害虫]. You see, most places have mice or mosquitoes[蚊子]. We have...dragons. Most people would leave. Not us. We’re Vikings. We have stubbornness[倔强] issues.

Hiccup: Not like the last few times, Dad! I mean, I really, actually hit it! You guys were busy, and I had a very clear shot! It went down, just off Raven[乌黑的] Point. Let’s get a search party out there before it...
Stoick: Stop! Just stop. Every time you step outside, disaster follows. Can you not see that I have bigger problems? Winter is almost here and I have an entire village to feed!
Hiccup: You know, between you and me[私下说说], the village could do with a little less feeding, don’t you think?
Stoick: This isn’t a joke, Hiccup! Oh, why can’t you follow the simplest orders?
Hiccup: I…I can’t stop myself. I see a dragon and I have to just kill it, you know. It’s who I am, Dad.
Stoick: Oh, you’re many things, Hiccup, but a dragon-killer is not one of them.Get back to the house. (to Gobber) Make sure he gets there. I have his mess to clean up.

[On the way home.] [回家路上。]
Hiccup: I really did hit one.
Gobber: Sure, Hiccup.
Hiccup: He never listens.
Gobber: Well, it runs in the family.
Hiccup: And when he does, it’s always with this disappointed scowl[怒容], like someone skimped on the meat in his sandwich. (imitating Stoick’s accent) “Excuse me, barmaid[酒吧女招待], I’m afraid you brought me the wrong offspring. I ordered an extra-large boy with beefy[结实的] arms, extra guts[勇气] and glory on the side. This here, this is a talking fish bone!”
Gobber: Now you’re thinking about this all wrong. It’s not so much what you look like—it’s what’s inside that he can’t stand.
Hiccup: Thank you for summing that up.
Gobber: Look, the point is, stop trying so hard to be something you’re not.
Hiccup: I just want to be one of you guys.
小嗝嗝：我真的打中了。

戈伯：你瞧，关键是别强迫自己做力所不能及的事情。
小嗝嗝：可我只想成为你们当中的一员啊。

在短语“run in the family”中，“run”表示“继续，连续”的意思，例如：
Good looks run in their family. （他们家每一代人都长得很好看。）
在动词短语“skimp on”中，“on”可用可不用，意思是“少给，克扣，省着用”，例如：

Stoick: Hiccup.

Hiccup: I decided I don’t want to fight dragons. What?
Stoick: What? You go first.
Hiccup: No, no, you go first.
Stoick: All right. You get your wish. Dragon training you start in the morning.
Hiccup: Oh, man, I should have gone first. ’Cause I was thinking, you know, we have a surplus of dragon fighting Vikings, but do we have enough bread making Vikings or small-home-repair Vikings?
Stoick: (giving Hiccup an axe) You’ll need this.
Hiccup: I don’t want to fight dragons.
Stoick: (laughs) Come on! Yes, you do!
Hiccup: Rephrase: Dad, I can’t kill dragons!
Stoick: But you will kill dragons!
Hiccup: No, I’m really, very, extra-sure that I won’t.
Stoick: It’s time, Hiccup.
Hiccup: Can you not hear me?
Stoick: This is serious, son! When you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you, which means you walk like us, you talk like us, you think like us. No more of...this.
Hiccup: You just gestured to all of me.
Stoick: Deal?
Hiccup: This conversation is feeling very one-sided.
Stoick: Deal?
Hiccup: …Deal.
Stoick: Good. Train hard. I’ll be back…probably.
Hiccup: And I’ll be here…maybe.
斯托里克：小嗝嗝。
小嗝嗝：爸爸……我有话和你说，爸爸。
斯托里克：我也要和你谈谈，儿子。是时候让你学习降龙了。
小嗝嗝：我不想降龙。什么？
斯托里克：什么？你先说。

斯托里克：是时候了，小嗝嗝。
小嗝嗝：你没听我说什么吗？
斯托里克：这不是开玩笑，儿子！当你拿起这把战斧，你就与我们同在，像我们一样走路，像我们一样说话，像我们一样思考。不再是……这副模样。
小嗝嗝：你刚刚比画着我整个人。
斯托里克：说定了吗？
小嗝嗝：你一个人都把话给说完了。
斯托里克：说定了吗？
小嗝嗝：……好吧。
斯托里克：很好。努力训练，我会回来的……也许吧。
小嗝嗝：我会呆在这儿……可能吧。

Stoick: I should have known. I should have seen the signs.
Hiccup: Dad?
Stoick: We had a deal!
Hiccup: I know we did, but that…that was before I…oh, it’s all so messed up[弄乱].
Stoick: So everything in the ring—a trick? A lie?
Hiccup: I screwed up[搞砸]. I…I should have told you before now. I just..you…take this out on me, be mad at me, but please, just don’t hurt Toothless!
Stoick: The dragon? That’s what you’re worried about? Not the people you almost killed?
Hiccup: He was just protecting me! He’s…he’s not dangerous!
Stoick: They’ve killed hundreds of us!
Hiccup: And we’ve killed thousands of them! They defend themselves! That’s all! They raid[袭击] us because they have to! If they don’t bring enough food back, they’ll be eaten themselves. There’s something else on their island, Dad. It’s…it’s a dragon like...
Stoick: Their island? So you’ve been to the nest?
Hiccup: Did I say nest?
Stoick: How did you find it?
Hiccup: What? No, I, I didn’t. Toothless did. Only a dragon can find the island. Oh, no, no. No, Dad. No, please, it’s not what you think. You don’t know what you’re up against. It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. Dad, please! I promise you, you can’t win this one! Dad, no! For once in your life, would you please just listen to me?!
Stoick: You’ve thrown your lot[命运] in with them. You’re not a Viking. You’re not my son.
斯托里克：我早该知道。我早该注意到这些迹象。

Hiccup: Thank you for summing that up. Why couldn’t I have killed that dragon when I found him in the woods? Would have been better for everyone.
Astrid: Yep, the rest of us would’ve done it. So why didn’t you? Why didn’t you?
Hiccup: I don’t know. I couldn’t.
Astrid: That’s not an answer.
Hiccup: Why is this so important to you all of a sudden?
Astrid: Because I want to remember what you say right now.
Hiccup: Oh, for the love of...I…I was a coward[胆小鬼]! I was weak! I wouldn’t kill a dragon!
Astrid: You said “wouldn’t” that time.
Hiccup: Oh, you…whatever! I wouldn’t! Three hundred years and I’m the first Viking who wouldn’t kill a dragon!
Astrid: First to ride one though. So?
Hiccup: I wouldn’t kill him because he looked as frightened as I was. I looked at him and I saw myself.
Astrid: I bet he’s really frightened now. What are you going to do about it?
Hiccup: Ah, probably something stupid.
Astrid: Good, but you’ve already done that.
Hiccup: Then something crazy!
Astrid: That’s more like it.
阿斯特丽德：真是糟透了。你一定很难受。你失去了一切——你的父亲、族人和最好的朋友。

我们经常接触到的“though”一般用作连词，和“even though”一样多用于句首，表示“虽然，尽管”的意思；但“though”其实还可以作为副词使用，意思是“可是，然而，不过”，不出现在句首，例如：
It’s hard work; I enjoy it though. （这是件苦差事，不过我倒也乐意做。）
小嗝嗝带领小伙伴们赶去龙岛救无牙和族人，一人一龙成功打倒了盘踞在岛上的巨龙——小嗝嗝几乎丧命，幸好在最后一刻被无牙所救，只失去了一条腿……
Hiccup: I knew it. I’m dead.
Stoick: (laughs) No, but you gave it your best shot. So, what do you think? (People cheer at the sight of Hiccup.) Turns out all we needed was a little more of…this.
Hiccup: You just gestured to all of me.
Gobber: Well, most of you. That bit’s my handiwork[手艺], with a little Hiccup flair thrown in[额外奉送]. You think it’ll do?
Hiccup: I might make a few tweaks[小小的改良].
Astrid: (punching Hiccup) That’s for scaring me.
Hiccup: What…what?! What is it? Is it always going to be this way? ’Cause... (Astrid kisses him.) I could get used to it.
Gobber: Welcome home.
Hiccup: (to Toothless) You ready?
This is Berk. It snows nine months of the year and hails the other three. Any food that grows here is tough and tasteless. The people that grow here are even more so. The only upsides are the pets. While other places have ponies[小马] or parrots, we have...dragons.
