Finally tonight, end of the year lists are starting to 1)roll out, and some of them most 2)intriguing and 3)revealing. Take a look at what we looked for on the internet during the year.
Everything you type into that little search box helps give a picture of what’s been on the world’s mind.
Marissa Mayer (Google VP of Search Products):…gives you a really good sense of what is the world thinking about because what they’re thinking about is what they search for.
This was a complicated year, with a sputtering economy, troops overseas, a new president…But what were the biggest searches? Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson…and Michael Jackson.
Maybe Lady Gaga will replace him in the public mind; she rose from nowhere to No.7.
But more than anything else, perhaps, people looked for each other. Six of Google’s top ten search terms were social networking sites, like “Facebook,” “Twitter” and “Tuenti,” their Spanish 4)equivalent.
Some names dropped completely off the top-ten list like, would you believe, Barack Obama. He’s still big, obviously, but he’s become so familiar that he went from being a top rising search to one of the fastest falling.
Yahoo said its searches showed people trying to cope in tough times. Google said they were even eating differently.
Marissa: This year the searches were for 5)comfort foods; chili, meatloaf, pancakes, banana bread.
But the most popular searches are just a tiny 6)fraction of the total. Google claims that, on any given day, a quarter of the searches made are for things nobody has ever looked up on their site before.

雅虎指出,其搜索内容显示出了人们努力应对艰难时期。谷歌说,经济状况甚至让大家改变了饮食习惯。
玛丽莎:今年人们关注简单家常菜,例如红辣椒、肉馅糕、煎饼和香蕉面包。
但相对于整体而言,这些最热门的搜索内容只算是沧海一粟。谷歌指出,随意选取任意一天,四分之一的搜索内容都是没有任何其他人之前曾在谷歌中搜寻过的。
