A shortened version of the word “favourite”.

Originally from the 1940s to describe someone who lived the life of a jazz musician.

3. to fan the flames 火上浇油
To act in a way that makes a problem either bigger or worse.
e.g. Her parents are already mad about her grades and she’s just fanning the flames by coming home late every night.
4. That’s a good question. 问得好,我也想知道答案。
A statement used to show that the speaker has no idea how to answer the original question.
e.g. –So, what are you doing here?
–That’s a good question.
5. time vampire 吸时鬼
Someone or something that takes up or “sucks” all your time.
e.g. My computer broke again yesterday and I spent all night trying to fix that time vampire!
