Kobe: My name is Kobe Bryant. I’m 17 years old. My father played professional basketball. He played for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Houston Rockets and the San Diego Clippers. He played professional basketball for eight years. After his eighth year he decided that it would be best for him to move on, to take his talent elsewhere. So we packed our bags and moved to Italy.
So it was very hard, my father told us that he’s retiring from the game of basketball and that it was time for us to come back to America. It was very hard getting adjusted, simply because I had a lot of trouble understanding English, and the slang. But, one thing I had in common with some of my other students and classmates was basketball.
I’ve admired a lot of people. People such as Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, 13)Emmitt Smith. But the two people that I admire the most are my mother and my father.
Interviewer: What is it about this game that you love?
Kobe: I love the game of basketball. I’ve been playing basketball since I was three, four, five years old. And I’m gonna keep playing basketball, hopefully forever. I just love this game very much.

Kobe: Always feels good to hear that. That means they respect what you do. They appreciate what you do, especially in the city o’ Los Angeles. It’s rare to see nowadays one player be with one organization for so long, for an entire career. I came to LA when I was 17. I mean, I needed my parents’ 14)signature to 15)validate the contract…
That felt good! I hate when shots feel good an’ they don’t go in. But you gotta just 16)tweak it an’ forget about it. I don’t dwell on missed shots at all. I don’t think about that stuff…very, very 17)optimistic. If I miss five in a row, that means I’m due for the sixth one. If I miss the sixth one, that means I’m definitely due for the seventh one. If I miss the seventh one, that eighth one’s goin’ in. Hahaha…
Interviewer: Kobe, what does MVP mean to you?
Kobe: I think what’s special about this season is that, you know, I felt like we were such a community, we’re such a great team, ’cause I felt like we did it, you know, because they made me better. By them, you know, gettin’ in the gym, workin’ on their game, makin’ plays and makin’ shots, that in turn brought me the MVP.
You know in the past year I hear a lot o’ my fans sayin’ I shoulda won it before. Maybe, maybe not, I don’t know, but winnin’ the MVP was … you know, it was a great honour because it was somethin’ that we shared together as a unit.
