Indian cricket selectors yesterday appointed Rahul Dravid as captain for the coming limited-over series against Sri Lanka and South Africa.
Dravid's selection as captain was announced by Indian cricket board's secretary S.K.Nair in Mohali, ending Sourav Ganguly's five-year reign as skipper. The selectors did not wish to take a chance with longtime skipper Ganguly's elbow injury that forced him to skip domestic one-day trial matches this week. Ganguly needs to prove his fitness before finding a place in the squad. Dravid, 32, has earlier led India in five tests and 17 one-dayers that Ganguly missed.
