在2010年的温哥华冬奥会上,来自西北特区的诗人谢恩·科伊赞(Shane Koyczan)在台上朗读其创作的、代表加拿大精义的诗作《We Are More》,获得掌声一片。
每个国家、每个民族都不是单一的独立个体,它过往历史的点滴,都将影响着这个世界的一颦一笑。

When defining Canada
You might list some statistics
You might mention our tallest building
or biggest lake
You might shake a tree in the fall
And call a red leaf Canada

Might even mention the fact that we’ve got a few
Barenaked Ladies
Or that we made these crazy things
Like zippers
Electric cars
And washing machines

the tallest building 指1976年于多伦多落成的加拿大国家电视塔(Canada's National Tower，CN Tower)，高度超过550米，是美洲最高建筑。
the biggest lake 指大熊湖(Great Bear Lake)，加拿大境内最大湖泊，面积3.1万平方千米。
Buffy Sainte-Marie 巴菲·圣一玛丽，加拿大早期民族歌唱家、作曲家、视觉艺术家、教师和社会活动家。她有加拿大原住民血统。
Barenaked Ladies 赤裸淑女。加拿大乐团，虽然叫“赤裸淑女”，却为清一色男子。最近热门美剧《生活大爆炸》(Big Bang Theory)的主题曲，便由他们演绎。
zipper 拉链的发明，指的是Gideon Sundback于1914年申请、1917年获批的美国专利是现代拉链的起源。原为电气工程师的Sundback出生于瑞典（后移民到加拿大，最终于美国定居），从小就对机械感兴趣。1 905年移民到美国，不久开始从事拉链的发明创造，使改良后的拉链得以普及。
electric car 其实指的是electric streetcar（有轨）电车的发明，加拿大人John Joseph Wright于1 883年发明的。
washing machine 指的是加拿大新布伦兹维克省的John E．Turnbull于1843年申请专利的带绞拧挤水辊的洗衣机(Clothes Washer with Wringer RollS).
